As an expert on Child Justice and Restorative Justice I was invited to the International Conference on the Role of Restorative Justice in Criminal Matters: Towards a community needs centred justice system, co-organised by UNICEF Georgia, the Council of Europe (CoE) and Public Prosecutor Office, and held in Tbilisi.

The Conference, hosted by the Ministry of Justice of Georgia and the General Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia, brought together international and national experts, as well as practitioners and professionals specialized in restorative justice and alternative mechanisms in criminal proceedings. The purpose of the Conference was to identify the key issues related to the development of restorative justice and alternative mechanisms to criminal proceedings and to create a platform for sharing and discussing international promising practices, to inspire the reform in Georgia. At the same time, the Conference provided an opportunity to share Georgia’s experience of restorative justice practices integrated in the framework of alternative mechanisms to juvenile criminal proceedings.

I was invited to share the main findings of my PhD research on diversion across Europe, to learn from inspiring practices where restorative justice is used as a form of diversion.
I also illustrated core learnings from European experiences on other applications of restorative justice with children and the training offer on restorative justice developed in European projects for multi-disciplinary groups of professionals.
